i want to bake

So today began the serious aspects of job searching.  Yesterday I printed a zillion resumes and today I delivered them to every bakery in a 40 miles radius of where I am living.  I got to meet Kim at Tee and Cake in Boulder today.  She is the one pastry lady that I would want to work with out here and I am really hoping that she will call me in for an interview.  Her cakes are truly fantastic and she does some really fun stuff with decorating.  I also applied at Big Fat Cupcake in Denver.  They only do cupcakes, but they do tons of flavors and it is a really cute shop.  I would definitely not mind working there, but it is about 30 minutes from home rather than the 8 or 9 for Tee and Cake.  I got to know more about the area and feel like I have a little better idea of where things are and how to get from one to another.

My evening was also truly fantastic.  I took a six mile walk around Waneka Lake and watched the weather change about 4 times during the walk.  When I started it was a little cloudy, but there was still some sunshine.  About halfway through it was completely dark and a little drizzly, but about ten minutes later the clouds were gone and the sun was shining again.  I LOVE COLORADO!

After my walk, I baked for the first time at a high elevation and it wasn't anywhere near as scary as I thought it was going to be.  I made oatmeal cookies with raisins, craisins, and chocolate chips so that everyone in the house was happy.  They turned out extremely well and it felt really good to be in the kitchen.  The next big challenge will be to do a cake and I would like to try a loaf of bread before I start class.  We'll see how that goes.  Cakes and breads are much more particular than cookies so I imagine there will be some disasters before success is to be had.

I have no idea what is on the agenda for tomorrow, except a bike ride to the post office.  If the weather is nice, I may find somewhere to go hike in the afternoon.  And I promise that pictures are coming.  My camera is dead and I need the battery to charge before I can upload photos.  Check out my facebook page for pics of the trip out if you are interested.
